Min learned to cook traditional Shan cuisine from his mother and is eager to share his family recipes. Most of the dishes he offers are only prepared at home and cannot be found in restaurants. Min has been a local guide for many years and enjoys showcasing Burmese food and culture. He is full of interesting information about Myanmar, its people, food and culture. After picking you up from your hotel, drive to the market to learn more about local herbs and ingredients used in Shan cuisine. This is a five-day rotating market, so it is in a different location each day. Visit the market together, learning about and tasting different local specialities, and picking up a few ingredients that you will use in your cooking class. Then climb aboard Min’s boat and float through the village, the only way to get to Min and May's modest bamboo home that sits atop Inle Lake. The boat ride to his home, located in a village in the northern part of Inle Lake, takes 15-20 minutes from Nyaung Shwe. The kitchen and dining area are out in the open, in the middle of Inle Lake, with stunning views of the floating garden and mountains in the background! Join Min and his wife, May, to cook popular Shan dishes in their open, outdoor kitchen during your two-hour, hands-on class. You will learn to make 2-3 Burmese dishes from scratch before sitting down with Min and his family to enjoy your meal. Your meal will include traditional Inthar and Shan dishes, such as Inle fish curry, Shan tofu curry, green tomato salad, or chicken with lime and basil. If you are not interested in the cooking lesson, you may also book a standalone market tour or market tour and meal experience. Please note that pick up and drop-off from your central Nyaung Shwe or Inle Lake hotel is included in the price of your booking. Please write your hotel name and address when creating your booking. Min can also prepare a vegan meal. Please note on days when Min is unavailable, his wife May will host the experience alone.
